2015 June Intensive Training Camp - Pao Cui Section 1
Champaign Scheduleclass in New York Cityclass in BostonCampSeminars and Workshops

Summer Pao Cui Camp, June 5-10, 2015, Blowing Rock, N.C.

Location

This year will be our 18th annual retreat held at the Blowing Rock Conference Center in the Blue Ridge Mountains surrounding Boone, North Carolina.

Getting to Blowing Rock from the Charlotte Airport

There are three basic options: 1) renting a car, 2) ride sharing, and 3) catching the Hickory Hop Shuttle service. All options are detailed on this page.

A ride sharing spreadsheet is available here. You can use this to arrange to share or offer rides to other campers.

Curriculum

Focus this year will be on a careful examination of the second twelve movements (Section 2 of 4 Sections) of the pao cui form, also knows as "cannon fist" or the second routine of the Chen style form. Master Yang will focus significant attention on developing deeper understandings of core principles, energies and applications.

We will continue practicing key standing and moving qigong drills in the mornings and sitting meditation in the evenings. As always, Master Yang’s instruction will focus on the importance of nurturing ourselves (yang shen) and, in the case of push hands, nurturing our training partners. In connection with this, we will again alternate between conventional upright training (in form, pushhands, and applications) and recumbent qigong exercises to restore energy and cultivate critical dimensions of deep relaxation.

Registration

Email: Bob Schlagal

Address: 365 Highland Ave
Boone, NC 28607
ph: 828-262-1007

Space in the camp is limited and reservations will be processed in the order received. Once the camp is filled, remaining applicants will be placed on a waiting list. You will receive an email confirmation of your status when your deposit is received. (Please make sure Bob has your email address.) Registration priority will be given to full-time participants. If all full-time places are filled, we will not be able to offer the option of part-time participation. If you are interested in part-time camp participation, please let Bob know and he will advise you at the beginning of June whether or not that option will be offered. You may wait to submit your deposit until that time.

Early registration is available from now until November 30, 2015. This early option is available only for students who have been camp participants at one of the last three camps. In order to guarantee your spot, Bob must receive your deposit by October 22nd.

Cost

The price for this year’s camp will be $930.00 if registration is completed before April 15th. After April 15th the cost will be $975. The price of the camp includes meals and cabin lodging and a camp t-shirt. For those making separate arrangements for meals and rooms in the lodge, the current tuition will be $590.00 (early registration) or $635.00 (late registration).

Note: Limited tent camping will be allowed at a slightly lower cost. Contact Bob Schalgal to inquire.

Lodging

There are two options for housing on-site:

  • Cottages. This is the basic housing and is included in the tuition. Each has a small kitchen, dining area and living room with fireplace and back porch. There is a master bedroom with queen-sized bed--ideal for couples--and a second bedroom with two singles and one bunk bed. There is a maximum capacity of 24 people in the cottages, and cottage spots are on a first come, first served basis.

  • Corriher Lodge. These are hotel-type rooms avaialable as single or double rooms. For those wishing to stay in the lodge, arrangements must be made directly with the Center. (Their phone number is 828-295-7813).

Alternatively, you may make your own reservations and commute to the camp site.

Deposit and Refund Policy

Please make out deposit checks for $350.00 to the ASU Tai Chi Club and mail them to Bob Schlagal. When sending your deposit, please indicate if you wish to have a spot in a cottage or if you will be securing a room at the lodge or elsewhere. Rooms in the cottages will be handled on a first come, first served basis. Also please indicate your t-shirt size.

Refund Policy: A full refund of the deposit is available (less a $35. processing fee) if cancellation notice is received before April 15. Cancellations after April 15 will be refunded at a 50% rate until May 10. Cancellations after that time cannot be refunded.
